Anime Festival in Springfield This Weekend

author/artist Bettina Kurkoski (My Cat Loki), an anime-inspired kids’ art contest, and a costume contest.

Entries for the art contest can be submitted the day of the event or in the central branch children’s room, up to two entries per person, with name and phone number on the back of the piece, which will be returned to the artist.

The library teen area will also be supplied with paper and colored pencils for artists to create works during the festival itself, as they become inspired. Entries will go on display as of 12:30 pm Sunday.

Instructions dictate that art must be either an original character done in anime style, or an established anime character done in a style of the artist’s choosing. Original line art must be done by hand and submitted as proof if a computer is used for coloring. Questions about the art contest can be directed to Sarah Hodge-Wetherbe, (413) 263-6828 ext. 201, or shodge-wetherbe@springfieldlibrary.org.

As for the costume contest, library guidelines suggest entrants bring along a picture of their character, on the chance that the judges aren’t familiar with it; if the character is original, let the judges know. Costumes should be handmade (not mass-produced), “appropriate for a family environment,” and without props.
